Transport Assessment

A Transport Assessment reviews the impact of the development on the local highway network in relation to the impact of ‘person trips’ from the development. ‘Person trips’ are journeys by all forms of transport (walking/cycling/public transport and vehicles) and both the highway network and public transport facilities are reviewed in terms of their current and future suitability in relation to safety and capacity (link or junction modelling).

Where identified Transport Assessments also include suggestions ‘in principle’ for highway improvements (which may be off site), and improvements to sustainable transport arrangements.

The need for either a Transport Assessment or Transport Statement is usually identified at an early stage by discussions with the Local Planning or Highway Authority.
